Most of us live under constant stress. It’s just the way life is these days – dynamic, fast, stressful. Some people try to get rid of stress with sports, fitness, work or even food. Very often, when someone feels stressed they either don’t eat at all or eat excessive amounts of food. And apparently, the second group is the larger one.
Stressful situations come up continuously, and they consume our metabolism and our body. They also can collapse our immune system. Each individual deals with stress in different ways.
Here are a few tips to help you deal with stress through the food you eat :
How to start the day
Start the day with a few raw nuts. They contain Zinc and vitamins from the B group which play an important role in keeping the nervous system healthy.
Consume citrus fruits
Have some natural orange or grapefruit juice mixed with a teaspoon of honey. Citrus fruits contain high amounts of vitamin C which keep the stress hormone in check and the honey with its many trace elements, contributes to stress relief and relaxation.
After the above morning routine, drink a cup of chamomile tea. It has been proven that chamomile helps the body relax and deal with stress. It balances the release of stress hormone and eases the work of organs that produce stress hormones (pituitary gland, hypothalamus, and adrenal glands). It is recommended that you consume chamomile tea up to three times a day during periods of higher stress.
Eat complex carbs
When we talkabout foods that lower stress levels, we’ll give preference to complex carbohydrates. First on this list would be the potato because of its high lupine content. Of course, other carb sources (rich in fiber) can be also added to the diet – cabbage, celery, carrots, beans, lentils etc.
According to newest research, the avocado can also be a miracle food. It contains mannoheptulose, which is actually a monosaccharide with seven carbon atoms. By blocking the enzyme hexokinase, it prevents glucose phosphorylation. As a result, the breakdown of glucose is inhibited. This in term means slower insulin release.
Phosphatidylcholine (found in soy) strengthens the nerves. Also, Vitamin E (found in olives and corn) helps in stress relieve. Selenium is another mineral that is recommended for the amortization of stress. It can be found in sea fish, nuts and cereals. Foods that contain folic acid can also be beneficial in stress reduction.
